Transforming Inner Thoughts into the Power of Communication
For young minds filled with ideas but still learning how to organize and express them, this workshop offers a welcoming space to practice asking thoughtful questions, speaking clearly, and exchanging perspectives through reasoned discussion.
✨ Socratic Salon: The Art of Inquiry & Persuasion
Mastering the Art of Questioning, Communication, and Persuasion
Presented by Little Thinkerland by Khru Huang
Designed for students aged 10–15, especially those seeking to build a strong foundation in critical thinking and communication as they prepare for IB / A-Level pathways and develop skills that may support their future university applications.
📚 Turning the Classroom into a Space for Meaningful Dialogue
Through the Socratic Seminar approach, students will explore ideas, ask questions, and discover insights together.
Drawing inspiration from classic literature, philosophy, and ethical dilemmas, each session encourages students to think beyond simple right-or-wrong answers.
For example…
“If doing the right thing means breaking the law, can it still be considered justice?”
Or…
“If we could erase every painful memory to make everyone happy, should we do it? Why or why not?”
These thought-provoking questions invite students to examine their reasoning, appreciate different perspectives, and learn to explain not only what they believe, but why they believe it.
🎯 Essential Skills Students Will Develop
• Articulating Ideas — Organize complex thoughts into clear, eloquent, and focused communication.
• Critical Inquiry — Ask deeper questions, challenge assumptions, and support opinions with logical reasoning and evidence.
• Active Listening — Listen to understand, identify key ideas, and build upon the perspectives of others.
• Reasoned Persuasion — Present convincing arguments, engage in respectful debate, and respond thoughtfully to differing viewpoints.
🗣️ A Student-Centered Learning Experience
Students will spend approximately two-thirds of each session actively speaking and exchanging ideas.
Rather than delivering traditional lectures, the teacher acts as a facilitator—posing meaningful questions, encouraging deeper thinking, and ensuring every student has the opportunity to contribute.
1️⃣ Read & Prepare Questions
Students receive a short reading or thought-provoking prompt in advance. They reflect on their initial ideas and prepare at least two questions for discussion.
2️⃣ Explore the Topic
Each session begins with an open-ended question that encourages students to consider multiple perspectives.
3️⃣ Engage in Active Discussion
Students exchange opinions, explain their reasoning, ask follow-up questions, and thoughtfully consider their peers’ viewpoints.
4️⃣ Reflect & Deepen Understanding
Students reflect on what they have learned, how their perspectives may have evolved, and which questions they would like to explore further.
🌱 Our Philosophy
We want every student to develop the confidence to speak from genuine understanding, while remaining open to listening, reconsidering, and refining their ideas when presented with stronger reasoning.
Because powerful communication begins with deep thinking and attentive listening.
