In an era where AI is rapidly transforming the world, is Architecture still worth studying — and will architects still be in demand?

The answer is yes. But the role of an architect is evolving.

AI can now generate images, create preliminary concepts, explore different forms, analyze data, and produce multiple design options within seconds. But architecture is far more than simply “drawing buildings.”

Architects still need to understand people, space, culture, the environment, structures, regulations, safety, budgets, and the wider urban context. More importantly, they must decide which ideas should actually become real spaces.

Modern architects are therefore not simply competing with AI. They are increasingly learning how to work alongside AI and technology through tools and fields such as BIM, Computational & Generative Design, 3D Visualization, Digital Fabrication, and data-driven design for energy-efficient buildings, Sustainable Cities, and Smart Cities.

And this raises an interesting question:

As AI becomes more powerful, have leading universities stopped offering Architecture programs?

The answer is no.

Architecture continues to be taught at leading institutions around the world, including MIT 🇺🇸, UCL – The Bartlett 🇬🇧, Politecnico di Milano 🇮🇹, NUS 🇸🇬, and INDA at Chulalongkorn University 🇹🇭.

What has changed is the direction of architectural education.

Today, Architecture is moving beyond building design alone and increasingly combining:

Technology + Sustainability + Urban Future + Human-Centred Design

The architect of the future may not necessarily be the person who can “draw the best.”

Instead, it may be the person who knows how to ask the right questions, critically evaluate what AI creates, choose the most appropriate solutions, and transform technology into spaces where people genuinely want to live, work, and connect.

Because ultimately, AI may help us design a building.

But deciding how people should experience and live within that space still requires a deep understanding of human beings.

🏛️ Architecture is changing — not disappearing.

And for students who love art, science, technology, creativity, and problem-solving, Architecture may remain one of the most exciting fields to watch in the age of AI. ❤️
