A Boarding School That Goes Beyond Preparing Students to “Apply to University” — It Prepares Them for the World of Top Universities.
When it comes to leading boarding schools in the United States, Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut is certainly one to watch. The school serves students in Grades 9–12 and postgraduate programs, with approximately 860 students, nearly 20% of whom are international. This means the school community extends well beyond American students alone. (choate.edu)
What makes Choate special, and why do students want to study here?
Choate’s strengths go beyond its prestigious name and historic reputation. The school stands out for its rigorous curriculum, discussion-based learning, and hands-on experiences, alongside specialized programs such as Advanced Robotics, Science Research, Environmental Immersion, Arts, and Government & Public Service. Students also benefit from a College Counseling team experienced in guiding applicants to leading universities across the United States. (choate.edu)
Living at a boarding school also helps students develop responsibility, independence, time-management skills, and the ability to live and work alongside others. Through extracurricular activities, sports, the arts, and community life, students grow in ways that complement their academic achievements—qualities that top universities value in their applicants.
💰 Tuition and Fees for the 2026–2027 Academic Year
For boarding students, tuition and fees total US$74,530 per year, equivalent to approximately THB 2.51 million at an exchange rate of around THB 33.65 per US dollar.
This does not include approximately US$1,000 for books, health insurance, travel, phone bills, and personal expenses. Families should therefore plan for a total annual budget slightly above THB 2.5 million. (choate.edu, exim.go.th)
However, Choate states that it meets 100% of demonstrated financial need, based on its assessment of a family’s financial circumstances. International students are also eligible to apply for financial aid, with supporting documents due by January 15. (choate.edu)
Can Thai students realistically gain admission?
The answer is yes, but competition is intense. Choate does not currently publish an official admission rate on its admissions page, so externally reported percentages should not be used to determine an individual student’s chances of acceptance.
Applicants should demonstrate consistently strong academic performance, English proficiency, genuine interests or strengths developed over time, and the ability to communicate their individual qualities through essays, recommendations, and an online interview.
The school reviews transcripts covering the previous two years and requires recommendations from English and mathematics teachers. The SSAT/ISEE is optional, but applicants who have not studied in an English-language academic environment for at least two years are encouraged to submit TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test results to demonstrate their English-language readiness. (choate.edu)
Choate is therefore not a guaranteed ticket to the Ivy League. Rather, it offers an environment with a rigorous curriculum, high academic standards, educational resources, and experienced college counseling that can help capable students develop their potential and become stronger candidates for admission to world-leading universities.
Strong Preparation — Not a Guaranteed Ticket.
